CViper Light

Terms of use

CViper Light is a free app that helps you track job applications, check your CV against a job and find jobs. These terms explain what you can expect from it, and the part you play when you use it.

Last updated .

The short version. The app is free and open source, and it runs on your own computer. When you use an AI with it, AI can get things wrong — so read what it writes and check it before you send it to anyone. The app helps you apply; the decisions, and what you send, are yours.

1. Who makes it

CViper Light is made by Steven Brady, an individual in the UK. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean him, and “you” means the person using the app.

To use CViper Light you need to be 16 or over.

2. It is free and open source

The app costs nothing, and there is no account to create. Its source code is published under the MIT licence, which lets you use, copy and change it. If these terms and the licence ever disagree about the code itself, the licence wins.

3. Your data stays with you

The app keeps your applications, CVs and settings on your own computer. It sends us nothing. How your information is handled, and what is sent where, is set out in the privacy policy.

4. Using AI with it

Some features, such as tailoring a CV or writing a cover letter, use an AI service. You choose that service and add your own key, or run a model on your own computer. When you ask, the app sends the text it needs straight from your computer to that service.

  • That service has its own terms. Your agreement for it is with the company that runs it, not with us. It may bill your account at its own prices. We take no cut, and we cannot see or control what it charges.
  • Keep your keys safe. The app stores them in your computer's own credential store. Anyone who uses your computer may be able to use them.

5. AI can get things wrong

AI can get things wrong. It can misread a CV or a job advert, miss something that matters, or write something that is not true about you. Always read what it gives you and check it before you send it. Never send a claim about your skills or experience that is not true.

The app's scores and suggestions are a guide, not a prediction. A high score does not mean you will get an interview, and a low one does not mean you will not.

6. Not careers, legal or financial advice

CViper Light is a tool, and nothing in it is careers, legal or financial advice. For a decision that matters to you — taking a job, negotiating pay, a contract — talk to someone qualified.

7. Jobs from other websites

Job search shows adverts from job boards and other websites. We do not write, check or stand behind those adverts, or the employers and agencies behind them. Follow each site's own terms when you use it.

8. What we are responsible for

We make CViper Light with care, but it is free and provided as it is, without any promise that it will always work, be free of faults, or suit your purpose. Keep your own copy of anything important; the app can make a backup file for you.

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss that comes from using the app, including what an AI service writes or charges, or a job you do or do not get. Nothing in these terms limits anything the law says cannot be limited — such as responsibility for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud — and nothing takes away your legal rights as a consumer.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the app changes. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and the old versions stay visible in this website's public history on GitHub.

10. The law that applies

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in the courts where you live.
